Validation
Test the idea before you fund it.
Backtests with the boring parts included. Define the rules, run them against history, and read the result with costs, slippage and out-of-sample splits already applied.
- In-sample
- 2019-01 → 2023-12
- Out-of-sample
- 2024-01 → 2026-09
- Costs
- 6 bps + 4 bps slippage
- Universe
- 480 large caps
- Run
- 4,182
- Data window
- 2019-01 → 2026-09
- Reproducible
- Yes
Interface shown is illustrative. Backtest figures are demonstration data, not a track record.
The problem
A backtest that ignores fees, slippage and survivorship will happily show you a strategy that cannot survive contact with a real order book. The result looks like an edge and behaves like a rounding error.
How Wands handles it
- 01
Entry, exit and sizing rules are declared explicitly, so a run can be reproduced from its parameters alone.
- 02
Commission and slippage assumptions are applied to every simulated fill, and the assumptions are stored with the run.
- 03
Data is split into in-sample and out-of-sample windows, with walk-forward runs available for parameter stability.
- 04
Every run records its data window, universe and assumptions so two results are never compared on unequal terms.
Out-of-sample by default
Results are reported on held-back data, not just the window the parameters were fitted to.
Costs are not optional
Fees and slippage are modelled on every fill, and the assumptions are visible next to the result.
Reproducible runs
Parameters, universe and data window are stored with each result so it can be re-run exactly.
